Now of course, not all people of the new

Now of course, not all people of the new generation are being referred to as unfashionable and uncaring. There are some who will not forgo the opportunity to “deck out” in their finery but this group is limited to very few. Unfortunately, our cultures and traditions and now even clothes and customs are being destroyed by the West. It is in the hands of this new generation to change that and keep our culture alive through fashion. Pick up a copy of Vogue, Indian Edition and do you think you see a single sari? Of course not! Or even, walk through a city like Mumbai and you’ll easily see many women in revealing Western clothes. Everything Indian is becoming more and more Westernized and it’s not just Indians but all DESIS! Desis in general are not keeping their customs alive. There is a dire need for this new generation to stand up and object. It is time to take back what is ours and flaunt it and be proud of it. The problem? Does anyone have the guts? No and celebritie

How many times have you been to a wedding

How many times have you been to a wedding wear people were wearing black? Or, you were wearing black? No, I’m not refering to men in their suits but rather women. Since when did we start wearing black to weddings and on happy occasions? These are the days for color and not just ordinary color but red and orange and magenta and so on of course! However, women will wear a simple black salwar kameez. I’m sorry but the black salwar kameez is not at all or even close to equivalent as the Western Little Black Dress. No, it does not come close nor share the same purpose. Wearing black to a wedding or happy occasion is simply a NO in our culture. Happy occasions are all about color. Our culture is all about color. There is no land more colorful than India!a

Men abandoned traditional clothes long ago. Some men might wear traditional clothes on their wedding day, maybe to someone else’s wedding, or on a special holiday or festival but most will not ever do so. They would rather attend a wedding in their Armani, suit that is. Seems like women are nearing this type of behavior as well. Even when they do choose to dress traditionally, they are just simply donning some old salwar kameez. Many do not care to wear a nice sari. If they do, they make a big deal of it or only do it occasionally. Sure, wear a sal

The new generation (and perhaps this is a sterotype), speaking of people up to their 20s or so is not at all concerned with dressing traditionally. Yes, it is understandable that we live in this Western society and it is acceptable to wear jeans, etc but what about those few days a year? I’m speaking of holidays, festivals, and special occasions such as weddings and parties where we get to dress up in our traditional clothes. Even on these days the new generation does not “dress up” as much as possible. Many young girls complain when they have to attend a series of weddings because they are tired of dressing up. Who would have ever thought that women and girls, who are meant to wear all the fineries in the world, would forgo this opportunity so easily! Well, they already ha

and me both know that the best part of getting married is shopping!! Husband comes a close second of course. ;P I shopped plenty too!! Bought myself an array of Indian dresses which I still haven’t worn. But the most important purchase was the wedding dress of course. :)

I managed to finalize one within 3-4 days after having visited nearly 20-30 shops in three different cities. During our trial-runs, my aunt (who helped me shop the entire time) took pictures of various lenghas when I tried them on (not all but a few to go home and rethink about to figure out what we were looking for). I’ve always wanted to share these pictures here but never got around t

mpressed by the content of the “skits” that the actors / singers performed in between the dance numbers. Usually I find skits to be tedious and just want to get on to the dancing. Although some of the skits were a little slow / long, I found the content to be interesting, especially in respect to Indian families and friends and work.

It was also really fun to see how interactive the Emcees were with the audience. The audience was willing to sing along in the microphone, answer questions, and even tell jokes on the fly! I thought the audience was much more willing to participate than audiences I have seen in the past.

I was very proud of my groups who performed the opening number to “Desi Girl” and the closing number to “Marjaani” – they did very well with their steps and looked great because they smiled and enjoyed themselves!

I don’t yet have photos / video from the show – I am sure I will get them soon. In the meantime, I was pretty happy with the new blue lengha that I h

always been fascinated with Mystical and Sacred Art of Mendhi! Mehndi is a traditional art from South Asia and India that is applied to skin during celebratory occasions. Even though I had a traditional Western wedding, I had mehndi designs drawn on my hands))) So I thought a lot of time how I could designed something similar to mehndi ornaments, but if there will be opportunity to wear it and take off when I want! I created an unique pattern and made my first mitt looking like henna art). This design are lacy, curly, delicate, tracery and pretty unique! Though most marriages are arranged, some couples in urban areas have love marriages. The true Indian wedding is about two families getting wedded socially with much less emphasis on the individuals involved. Many of the wedding customs are common among the Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and even Muslims. They are a combination of local, religions and family traditions. dress was the
he Hindus attach a lot of importance to marriages and the ceremonies are very colorful and extend for several days. In India, where most Hindus live, the laws relating to marriage differ by religion.

By the Hindu Marriage Act of 1955 passed by the Union Parliament of India, for all legal purposes, all Hindus of any caste, creed or sect, Sikh, Buddhists and Jains are considered as Hindus for the sake of the Hindu marriage Act – and can hence intermarry. By the Special Marriage Act, 1954, a Hindu can marry a non-Hindu employing any ceremony provided certain legal conditions are fulfilled.

The pre-wedding ceremonies include engagement (involving vagdana or oral agreement and lagna-patra written declaration), and arrival of the groom’s party at the bride’s residence, often in the form of a formal procession.
The post-wedding ceremonies involve welcoming the bride to her new home. Just as Hinduism is hard to grasp and contrast against the newer, book-defined, structured religions such as Christianity and Islam, India’s prevalent wedding traditions are also hard to categorize purely on a religious basis. They have a closer similarity to ancient cultures such as Greek, Roman, Persian, Egyptian and Chinese.
An important thing to note is that despite the fact that the modern Hinduism is largely based on the puja form of the worship of devas as enshrined in the Puranas, a Hindu wedding ceremony at its core is essentially a Vedic yajna (a fire-sacrifice), in which the Aryan deities are invoked in the Indo-Aryan style. It has a deep origin in the ancient ceremony of cementing the bonds of friendship/alliance (even among people of the same sex or people of different species in mythological contexts), although today, it only survives i

It is because of the stylishness and elegance that it possesses at the same time. Why not? You can definitely look glamorous with a bootie in whatever outfit you may have.

This bootie by Christian Louboutin is one of those shoes that you can definitely be proud to wear. With its brown authentic leather, the natural elegance of a bootie comes out. It has a pointed toe and a 5 inch heel that completes its chic and sexy look. This bootie also includes a zip fastening on the inner side for additional style and for the purpose of easy wearing. It also has a red sole which is very typical of Christian Louboutin’s work. This bootie is made more attractive because of the buckle strap located on the ankle part. It prevented the bootie from getting too dull by accenting it with nicover the toe and a side fastening that does up over the ankle. Signature red lining.

I guiltily must admit that while I think Louboutins are beautiful, I sometimes think the red undersole can be a bit vulgar or tacky, as much as I like wild red shoes. But on this pair, the ruffles distract from the red undersole delightfully. We’ve seen a lot of ruffled-front shoes in the past few years, but these are my favorite, mimicking rosettes and reminding me of the Louboutin Petal

ry Prive Peep-Toe Pumps Show Tough-Glam

Christian Louboutin never fails in giving us unique shoe designs. His creations venture from the most sophisticated to the most odd and from feminine to rocker-chic. Obviously, this Christian Louboutin Very Prive Peep-Toe Pump falls under the rocker-chic category.

It looks very interesting, though I’m sad to say that tough or rock fashion is just not my style. But anyway, having this pump would surely start a conversation and would surely draw a lot of eyes.

The black rich leather combined with gunmetal pointed studs simply creates that hard-edged glamour. And though it looks plain tough, the peep toe and the heel definitely makes this feminine.

The self-covered heel is of 4¾ inches high while the platform is about an inch, and this should be enough to boost your height and fashion styling. Perhaps you could wear this along with your sleek leggings or blac

ian Wedding Dresses

ndian wedding is about two families getting wedded socially with much less emphasis on the individuals involved. Traditional Indian weddings are generally structured into pre-wedding ceremonies, wedding day ceremonies (consisting of the Baraat, the Varmala and the Phere), and the Vidaai.

Nowadays, there are many stores are giving lots of option for the customers and changing their personality. You have to be smart about how to camouflage your body faults and look trendy.

The main wedding apparels for an Indian wedding is Lehanga choli/ Ghagra choli. The indian dresses usually make you look slimmer and taller rather than western wear. Before buying the right Indian wedding dress, there are some certain things you need to know.

Don’t wait till the entire outfit is ready. Try the outfit when the slip of the Ghagra and choli is ready. If that is ok there won’t be any differences in the fittings.

For a jazzy look, use a gold lame blouse and a gold embroidered tissue sari.
